OK, I feel pretty stupid because I had no idea what flash fiction was until a few months ago.  At first I thought well that’s kinda cool, but no way I could do it because my verbosity prevents anything short of an epic novel. Pfft…right.  Anyway, I decided to give it a shot and chose a horror fiction contest, and damn if it wasn’t a shit ton of fun!

Oh, I doubt I’ll win of course, but who cares?  My fellow contestants are freaking awesome, and I think I may have found my new favourite pastime. 🙂

Screaming Silence

“Where am I? What happened? I…I…remember someone screaming and then…”

Silence the moment her gaze fell on the shredded torso dumped in a farmer’s field beneath a pile of junk. Tiny grains of sand glittered where they stuck to the gore, blood and bone protruding from it, as if highlighting the spectacular way in which this woman died. Gawkers gathered, but heard nothing.

“Wait! Who is she? Help! Can’t anyone hear me?”

Red hair…butterfly earring torn away…mole behind the right ear.

“NOOOOOOOO! It can’t be! It can’t!“

Another appeared. “I hear you,” said the Reaper, “and it’s why I’m here.”
